2022 Legislation

  • 2022 HB 2556 – Prohibiting denial of a petition for expungement due to the petitioner's inability to pay outstanding costs, fees, fines or restitution. See the Judicial Council’s testimony.
  • 2022 HB 2557 – Prohibiting denial of a petition for expungement of a juvenile offense due to the petitioner's inability to pay outstanding costs, fees, fines or restitution and authorizing expungement if the juvenile has not committed an offense in the previous two years. See the Judicial Council’s testimony.
  • 2022 HB 2581 – Creating a mechanism to seek relief from the Kansas Offender Registration Act requirements, decreasing penalties for failure to register, allowing courts to waive fees associated with registration, reducing number of places a person is required to register, and eliminating registration for most juvenile adjudications. This bill was substantially the same as 2021 HB 2349 and originated with this report.
